My stay in London for the weekend was a lot of fun! I stayed at the Meininger Hyde Park Hostel in South Kensington, London. It was barely a hostel – it was nicer than my dorm back at URI. Coming from Copenhagen (small, quiet city) to London (large & loud) was a bit of a shock to my senses. The Tube reminded me like the metro in NYC so I somehow felt like I went home for the weekend or something. It was weird to be around such noise, after being used to an intimate, natural setting for 3 weeks.
Going to London after being in Copenhagen taught me a lot about Copenhagen, actually. How unique Copenhagen/Denmark is, how the culture is built on such different values than Americans are used to (Hint: Google the Law of Jante – it governs the value system in Denmark).
Anyway, here’s what I did in London:
I went to the Trooping of the Colour and saw the ENTIRE royal family (SO FREAKING COOL), saw the Kensington Gardens (beautiful), checked out the Natural Museum (which was ehh, wouldn’t do that next time), and went on the London Eye (expensive but fun). I ate at Gloucester Arms, which had incredible shepherd’s pie (I don’t even like shepherd’s pie) and went to O’Neills Pub (4 floors of drunken craziness). I also did a pub crawl that I really enjoyed ;)
