My professor let us leave early today, so I decided to take a walk over to the StudenterHuset (“Student House”) for some coffee and to do my homework. Denmark is cool and windy today, but honestly, the weather doesn’t make this place any less enjoyable. The streets are lively with bikers and native Copes. I don’t know how else to describe this picturesque city as anything other than “charming.”

What I’ve enjoyed most so far is the greenspace that is everywhere. Yesterday, I went to rent a bike with one of my housemates, and we walked through 3 different parks on the way to the bike store. And when I say “park,” I don’t mean a little square area with a playground that you find next to an elementary school or something. These areas are vast and surrounded by flowers, trees and statues. In the U.S., we don’t have such an appreciation for nature in our daily lives. Here, this naturalistic approach to urban planning makes Copenhagen all the more special.

Today I’m going to bike with my friend around Copenhagen (weather permitting). We’ll see how I do with angry, speedy Danes coming home from work on the bike lanes…
